When he was alive, Henri Rousseau was not taken seriously because his paintings seemed childish: It is no surprise that his planar perspectives and bright rendering of jungle forest and creatures, visualized only in his mind were regarded by fine art circles in Paris as naive. Yes, they appear to be light-hearted, but they are compelling and charming. He died poor and without recognition in 1910.

I have been working for the last 6 months on a project. I have realized it has been an outlet for my own school-days memories. My school was in the middle of a forest and my proposal at present for Forest Hill School is to bring back the forest to the playground… but an abstract kind of forest…
